Dear Mallavika,

You have asked us for a better choice between the two courses but before giving any suggestion we would like to know about you. What is your qualification? What is your present designation? What is the length of experience in years? What is the nature of the industry? What opportunities do you foresee in the current organisation? What opportunities do you foresee out of the organisation? Are you ready for the relocation? Within HR, what exactly do you do?

Now coming to a quick recommendation about the courses. Both the options are good but there is a difference between them. Doing a course on CHRO is fine but CHRO is also a designation. It is not just an ordinary designation but it is also a destination of the designations in the HR field. To reach the destination, it takes almost two decades.

In contrast, a course on HR Analytics could give you immediate benefits. Whatever designation you may get now, over a while, you can acquire the position of CHRO. Since the tools of analytics remain the same, side by side, you may be able to handle work related to Marketing analytics, Supply Chain analytics or even business analytics itself. The latter will give you an understanding of the business as a whole.

Whatever course you choose, what happens after the course is important. It requires tremendous willpower to implement the knowledge gained. There are thousands of MBAs in HR. How many implement the knowledge acquired during the course? Hardly anybody! Lastly, it requires luck to get a job where bosses value the implementation of the knowledge. There are cases of rotting a top-notch talent.

Whatever course you do, the knowledge gained through the course needs presentation also. Presentation of the knowledge requires good communication. Therefore, before taking up a course ask yourself are you expressive? Are you descriptive? Do you spend time building vocabulary? There are many HR professionals whose growth was stunted because of poor communication. Do not be one amongst them!

All the best!
