Hi, It depends on the Employer.
Basically leave without pay situation arises when there is no balance in the employee leave account or employee want to take a long break on medical grounds or some genuine grounds & Management is willing to allow the employee to proceed on leave but doesn't want to pay salary.
In general the maximum period allowed can be 3 to 6 months range.
