shalini,
The head count u have quoted is as on July 08 right?, if yes, then the ( headcount as on july 07 + new joinees - resignees) should give you your headcount as on July 08. As per the numbers you have given it doesn't tally.
If all other info except for the new joinees is correct, then pls apply the formula Vaibhav has quoted. Avg number of employees = ( july 07 + july 08 ) / 2
Hope this is of some use to you.

Hello Shalini,
If my maths is correct
Total No. of Employees in July 2007 = 277
New Joinees(July 2007 to 0:cool: = 67
Total no. of employees July 2007 -2008 = 344
Less total no. of employees resigned = 45
Total Number of Employees in July 2008 = 299
Your figure for the same is
Total Number of Employees in July 2008 = 234
So what happened to the rest?
Have a nice day.

Dear Shalini,
As I have quoted in my previous mail. Your numbers on either the new joinees or your head count seems to be wrong. However, if you are sure that your numbers with respect to :
Head count ( July 07 and July 08 )
Exits ( Resignees )
is correct, then please go ahead and use Vaibhav's formula. That will give u the attrition %. However, I suggest you revisit the numbers you have mentioned before you go ahead with this.
