Hi Raveesh,

You had asked a very basic and very important question. Many times it is seen that even after serving in HR for say 3-4 years, the person doesn't know why they opted for HR, and that is the time when the slow path begins in one's career.

The answer to this question is always different, but the best and most genuine one is the very beginning point of the career. It is not your first job or first project in HR. I am talking beyond that, when you choose to select a specialization. Yes, that is the point where the right answer lies. I will explain why.

A blank mind always produces the optimum result. So at the time of choosing the specialization, one is totally blank or you can say your mind is focusing on only one aspect. You ask several times, "Why HR? What is there in HR? What will be the probable future in HR?" and endless "whys."

The best part is, you answer all the "whys" at that time, but in layman's language. For example, "I like to interact with people." This is not wrong because none of the answers to this question could be wrong, as everyone has their own reasons and justifications as well.

Okay, coming back to the topic. So now you have the layman answer to this question. After that point of decision, you move on to studying the concepts of HR, then you practice the concepts. At this point, you and your mind are not in a condition to accept the layman answer to "Why HR?"

What you have to do is furnish that answer with proper terms you have studied to date and see whether they can be best utilized in the corporate world. This will increase your confidence as well.

Want to try this? I will help you.

Take a paper and pen. Put down the points (layman points). These are the traits as well as opportunities for you.

Now try to furnish them, take your time. Once done, just go through it as a professional (you are the best judge of yourself, that's why self-appraisal system is in use).

You will find not only the right answer to this question but also the right way to answer the question, "Why HR?"

You know, I had chosen HR for the above reason. This is my best side of work and personality.

Hope this will help you and others who will read this. Best of luck.

But looking for more genuine answers... I am pursuing PGDBA (HR) at SCDL and have 1.4 years of experience in recruitment. Whenever I come across this question, I used to answer: "Because I want to work in the core of an organization and be a part of it, interacting with people." Please help...

I will tell the interviewer,

WHY DUDE / BABES WHY THIS QUESTION YOU ARE ASKING ???? :-D:-D

I am an educated person having a professional qualification and have relevantly applied for the advertisement, and you have called me for an interview. In the interview, you are asking the most basic question: WHY HR?

Sir,

I will surely reply, but will you just think over these questions,

Why do you look like this? (and comment on their looks)

Why did you study in this city?

Why were you born on this earth?

Why did you marry this person?

Why did you go to this college?

Why were you born into this family (poor, middle, rich class)?

Why, why, why,

Asking a question is very easy, DUDE / BABES, but see that what you ask is a relevant question.

The question you have asked is about the mysteries of life, and we human beings have no control over it; everything is pre-written. As per your fate / kismet / destiny, you will get / lose these material things. Can you tell me when will you die? You might even die today in some accident (making him drive more cautiously). This ceiling fan might fall on your head (making him look up :-P:-P:-P), or you might get a heart attack (making him conscious of his health), or you might live up to 100 years (making him happy).

This is all a game of kismet / fate / destiny, all MAYEEE over which we don't have any control. So why try to explore the unknown? Let us go with the flow of life, let life take us and guide us.

Dear Raveesh,

I can't understand why people are not asking:
- Why do you want to make a career in Engineering?
- Why do you want to make a career in Medicine?

Remember, HR is one of the professions. Every individual has his/her own reasons for choosing their career path.

Dear Raveesh,

You are the person who seems to be in trouble. Dear friend, you can give an answer like this: Every person has their own opinion about their career, self-interest. A self-assessment of where I can work better, what I love to do, because in life, you can achieve your target in those things only which you love to do. It's my passion and it's my area where I can work beyond my imagination because I love to do it.

Got it, friend? Now start loving what you are doing; you will find the answers to your own questions. Good luck.

Hi Raveesh,

If anyone were to ask me why HR, my answer would be as follows:

To me, my profession is an extension of myself. Since childhood, I have had an inclination and liking towards people. People skills were inculcated in me early in my life. In my adolescence, as I traveled to different cities for my further studies, I had an opportunity to meet different kinds of people and observe various cultural changes. I was truly amazed at the potential of human beings and their intrinsic qualities. At that juncture of my life, I decided to get into Human Resources. That's it.

Priyanka

Dear,

The HR function holds a prominent position in shaping the destiny of any organization. It is an opportunity for HR professionals to add value to the organization and to touch the hearts of people. Since human resources are the biggest asset to an organization, an organization without human resources is just like a body without a soul.

Dear All,

We cannot easily define the essence of HR; it's a vast concept. In my opinion, HR is not just a specialization; it's a way of industrial living. We cannot operate any company or even a shop without Human Resources. For any type of company, they need the 5Ms (Man, Money, Material, Market, and Machine). Do you know that in these 4Ms stand on one side, and 1M stands on the other? The 1M, which represents Man, stands alone. Without this resource, all others are rendered useless.

Dear Raveesh,

This is a basic question and the direct answer to it is that human resources are the most valuable assets of any organization. If you can't manage this resource, then it would be very difficult to manage and control the other factors.

Taking this into consideration, organizations need some people who have the skills and knowledge to manage and control this asset. On the other hand, you can also say that HR professionals will provide the organization with the right people who possess the required and suitable competencies, ensuring the organization can follow a path to success.

I hope this will satisfy your trust. Please let me know about the same. Good luck.

Hi Raveesh,

To answer your question "why you want to make a career in HR?"

For me, the following few points have influenced my decision to pursue HR as my profession:

- HR profession provides opportunities:
- to work closely with the top management of an organization
- to handle the toughest resources of an organization
- to contribute to creating a highly performing organization
- to interact with people across the world
- to identify and retain the best talent for an organization
- and more.

At a high level, a company's success relies on the CEO and HR Head.

If my understanding is correct, you have recently started your career in HR, focusing on recruitment as a full-time assignment. Remember, recruitment is an area of HR that has significant dependencies on others such as candidates, hiring managers, vendors, and skill availability. Roles with high dependencies are always more challenging.

I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the hiring process and then transition to an HR Generalist role, which can provide you with ample opportunities to experience real HR functions.

Remember, only a few fortunate individuals land in the profession they desire, while many "learn to love the profession" they end up in. It's akin to a wedding, my friend.

Wishing you good luck!

HR is the only department wherein we (HR persons) can understand the various types of people, their qualities, and approaches. For a simple matter like an increment, a worker can ask the HR staff/Manager politely, another can argue, and another can inquire through union staff. The way HR staff responds is definitely important.

By handling these situations, we, as HR professionals, can develop patience, listening skills, knowledge, and an understanding of what not to do in such circumstances. This process is akin to a form of self-improvement, almost like YOGA.

HR professionals should definitely not act like other department heads or staff in any way.

Hi,

For me, I study HR because I like it too much. I like the concept and the functions, but now I work in another field. When anyone asks why HR, my answer is because HR is the blood of the company and the soul for it.

Extending the words of Priyanka...

HR is not only a department; every manager/leader plays a role in HR within the industry by recruiting the right candidate at the right time, motivating team members, grooming subordinates, etc. Hence, everybody plays a role in HR.

A question arises when I am selecting something different from others; however, it is the same as everybody else is doing.

Hi, my bro! Thanks for giving the premises in the choice of HR role. According to me as well, we choose the HR role because we like to organize the job and share it with others. Then, we monitor and control it later.

Secondly, we want people to be aligned with our ideas and drive them towards our target or organization's objectives.

Thirdly, we like to hear and record all confidences of our people.
