Hello seniors,

I am doing MBA in HR (3rd sem) :icon1: I have a project (dissertation work) in a mobile-network service provider company. There I have to reduce the cost of lunch per plate.

I don't have any idea regarding Canteen Management or so. I am helpless, how should I proceed.

I know I have to get a thorough knowledge about the market price of each and every vegetable. This I shall try my level best. But without any basic knowledge about the Canteen, I can't even prepare a questionnaire. So, can you please help me on it?

Also, if anyone has done a project related to Canteen, then please forward it to me on "p_snowhite@rediffmail.com".

I will really be grateful to you.

Regards,
Snowhite

Seniors,

Please help me. I'm in a great state of tension and feeling helpless. Please guide me on how I should take my steps.

The main problem is that it's a popular company, like that of RELIANCE, so I feel ashamed to ask my external guide about these silly things. Also, I got the project with a reference through my relative working there. So it's a matter of prestige for him if I step back now or behave like a fool. 😢

Please tell me, friends, what should I do? I'm sure that they will help me, but I have to have the basic knowledge on which I can design my project and approach accordingly. 😞

Please, please help me.

1. Capture data - What is the menu for lunch every day? Is it the same for all days or different?
2. Make a list of every item.
3. Work out the cost, time, and likability for each item.
4. Search the market (you can ask your mother as well) for new ideas.
5. Conduct a CTQ (Cost, Time, Quality) analysis.
6. Suggest different and innovative ways.

Dear Snow,

No need to worry too much about this. In some companies, the Personnel & Administration Team is together. Even though this is not a core HR project, you can consider this project for the purpose of cost-saving (as cost-saving activities are a vital part of all organizations). Hence, this will help you during your career.

Regards,
Kumar

Note: Few tips for cost-saving in the canteen,
1. Compare with other competitive caterers
2. Work out and study for in-house canteen
3. Compare grocery items costs
4. List vegetables menu considering the cost, etc.

Thank you, STANDARD. I also understand what you say. But cost-cutting here is not related to employees, so it's a point of question (during the presentation in front of my external during Practical) - for whose benefit did I do the project? 🤔

@Snowwhite: In my opinion, savings from the canteen expenses come from the process and the system followed at the company. For your dissertation, the findings and recommendations will also play a vital role as the company will only be interested in that. Hence, mapping of different Canteen Management Solutions is important.
