Dear All,

I need to design a training program in the format given below. Can anyone please explain this with an example (say training on communication skills) as I am very new to this field.

Format is:

- Training Objectives
- Training Content
- Training Methods
- Training Aids
- Training Providers (Internal and External)
- Training Schedule (including time/session, topic, Faculty with feedback sessions in between).

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Manju,

The first thing you need to do to make your job easier is to get in touch with some training organizations and invite a proposal from them. Most of the content in your format will already be covered in the proposals sent to you. You can use this information along with the internal organizational requirements to create your final format.

Contents, methodology, and aids will usually vary based on the organization finally selected for the training by your organization.

We are a training and consulting organization based in NCR. If you require our services, please send your email and contact number so that we may also send you our proposal for your requirements. Hope this information was useful to you.

Hi Manju,

I'm not clear on what you actually require. I'm mentioning the outline of the matter covered under your topic:

Objective: To improve the communication skills of the participants.

Method: The way you are trying to conduct the program. Group discussion, presentation, lecture, games.

Aids: The materials that you will use. PPTs, questionnaires, pamphlets, videos, etc.

Content: The information that you're going to teach.

Internal provider: your staff.

External: training organizations, outside faculty.

Hope this will help you.

Cheers,
Dhannya

Hello Manju,

You could design the program as follows:

Target Audience: Identify the target audience - junior/mid-level/senior who is to be imparted the training.

Training Need Analysis: Analyze what aspect of communication each category needs to be trained in. For example,

Senior Category - interviewing, consensus building, negotiation, consulting, etc.
Mid-level - giving and receiving feedback, presentation skills, speaking, listening, assertiveness, etc.
Junior Managers - verbal and non-verbal communications, written expression, telephone and email etiquette, etc.

(A 'one-size-fits-all' approach should be avoided.)

Training Objectives: Based on the above, flesh out the training objectives for each level separately. Bloom's Taxonomy will be useful in framing the objectives.

Training Design: Will include total duration, number of sessions, session plan, total number of participants, participants per batch, pre and post-training assessment methodology, etc.

Training Content: Develop content (modules) separately for each level based on the needs and desired outcomes. There will be a mix of three elements - knowledge, skill, and behavior in most modules.

Training Methods/Methodology: Use a mix of classroom and experiential learning methodologies; will include the use of PPTs, AV clips, simulations, games and activities, question-based discussions (QBDs), case studies, role-plays, etc.

Training Aids: Projection system, assessment tools, equipment for activities, basic whiteboard and markers.

Training Providers (Internal and External): While it may be okay to use in-house resources for training employees at the junior level, it would be a good idea to consider external training partners to conduct programs for mid-level and senior employees - they will bring a lot of value to the table with their experience and expertise.

Training Schedule (including time/session, topic, Faculty with feedback sessions in between): In essence, this could be a part of your training calendar and is only a matter of detail.

Trust you'd find the above inputs useful.

We have a specially designed program on Communication Skills called 'InSync' - it's a paradigm shift from the way training in communication skills has been imparted till now. I am attaching the program brochure - I am sure you'll find it interesting.

Warm Regards,
