Dear All,

I am joining a manufacturing company in a managerial position, and I have to establish the HR department in this organization. I am basically from a non-manufacturing background, and hence this industry would be an entirely new ball game for me. Although I am familiar with certain common aspects like recruitment & selection, compensation & benefits, employee relations, etc., I want to learn more about the organizational structure, learning and development, and performance management system prevailing in the manufacturing industries.

I request all those who have knowledge about the above-mentioned competencies to please share the same with me. Also, if there are specific books that discuss HR in the manufacturing domain, kindly provide the details of the same.

Thanks & Regards,
Madhu.

Hello Madhu,

You don't need to worry about that. Go through labor laws and understand the department and what activities you should carry out. You can find all HR-related files from the basics to in-depth in the search forum. Also, you can upload some books like HRM which are posted by seniors in the HRM forum. Best of luck.

Dear Madhusudhan,

Congratulations first and foremost from my side. If you are joining any plant, then the major role of HR is of compliance, liaisoning, union handling (if any), and of learning and development. Your strength in employee relations will be of a lot of use at the plant.
