Dear sir,

My boss is competing with me. He is taking over all of my key responsibility areas (KRAs) that I have been managing for a long time. He has shifted all the analyses and reports that I used to prepare for management into his own KRA.

I am upset. Please help me. What should I do?

Welcome to the world of professionals.

Vipul, this is a normal practice. Don't lose heart; this will happen in our careers very frequently. Perform your job with more effort. Management knows everything about who is performing what.

Stay cool, calm, and composed...

Wish you the best of luck.

Dear Sender,

As rightly said by Mr. Hassan, be calm, do not lose hope, and don't get tense. Things will change automatically soon, as your boss may start feeling that the job he is performing in KRA is not at par with his level.

Hi Vipul,

Don't lose heart. Office politics are very common. It's the other way round in my case, but my boss is acknowledged all the time. Chill. Could you tell me about your hierarchy at your office? Whom are you reporting to? What is your designation? How many people are in your department? What roles and responsibilities have you been assigned (generally mentioned in the appointment letter)?

Thank you.

Hi,

It's again politics, yar. One thing: he's going to play politics with you. There's an example: keep your enemy with you because he can't do anything. Praise him, and surely he will melt. Be cool, yar. It always happens wherever you go.

Hi, Ensure that you update your boss’s boss about the things done by you. Use bcc smartly while sending mail to your boss :-) Regards, DK

updating boss’s boss creates bad impressionwhen it is through verbal. so first make ur boss’s boss aware of what is happening through email or in through letter. thankq valbooj

Dear Member,

Please read your question carefully and assess how many mistakes you have made in this small paragraph. We have no way of assessing your boss here. If you make so many mistakes, then do not mark BCC to your boss's boss. You will be exposing yourself. The best thing is to read more, assimilate more, discuss more, and then claim that your boss knows less than you.

I am not posting this to demotivate you. I believe you would take this advice and criticism in the right spirit.

With best wishes,
Siva

Dear Vipal,

I am totally agreeable to Hassan, and as he said, welcome to the organizational world.

Management always knows what it is doing within the enterprise. If not rewarded now, you will be rewarded in the future, maybe in different forms than you are expecting.

But stay cool and enjoy the journey, as the end is just as enjoyable. Love what you are doing and focus on it. Please do not focus on negative issues as this only brings demotivation.

I would like to share something with you. Yesterday, I was in a hotel and I met one of my friends who asked me to join his table. Since I was waiting for another person, I took this opportunity to have a drink with him. He was discussing with other influential directors in his organization, and suddenly a phrase like this came out from another director: "I am aware that he is making much noise about work that he did not do, but I am not interested in his job. I have decided to meet his assistant on Monday." They were referring to another person and to his assistant.

You see, now the assistant will have a kind of informal interview, and if he makes a good impression, then the sky will be his limit.

So, be positive. I know it is difficult, but if this can help you, know that we all get into these kinds of situations practically every day.

So, welcome to the organizational world.

I understand you. He just wants to learn from you. Sharing knowledge with others is a good thing, so there is no need to be afraid. Tell him in a simple way how you did the work. During appraisal, utilize your skills and explain to them. Alternatively, you can politely explain to him that the work you have done is a result of your effort. With a friendly approach, you can communicate effectively. He will listen.

Hi Vipul,

First thing - We don't have the choice to choose our parents and boss. This is everywhere, and hence we are professionals. Patience and adjustment are the best skills to handle this.

Best regards
