Hello everyone. I am a law graduate from Delhi University. When I was in the 2nd and 3rd years of college, I interned with an AOR and one senior advocate at Patiala House. Upon completing my LLB from DU, it was very difficult for me to find a job. I was the only person in my whole family with a law background, which meant I did not have any connections or references in any law firm. After my internships, I realized that practicing law was not something I wanted to pursue. Just two days after my last LLB exam, I landed a job as a legal associate at L*O.com. However, there was no growth, and our tasks were limited to making calls to clients to convince them to hire a lawyer. It felt like a waste of time. I always aspired to work in a corporate law firm given my commerce background and the promising scope it offers. Due to a lack of opportunities, I ended up joining a labor law consultancy, hoping to gain some legal knowledge at least.

In the corporate world, every company seeks candidates with at least 1 or 2 years of experience. Despite my efforts to break into a corporate law firm, my status as a fresher hindered my job prospects. If every firm demands candidates with 1 or 2 years of experience, how can freshers like me gain that initial experience?

Now, with 1.5 years of experience in Labor laws, I have come to realize that the scope of Labor Law is quite limited. You either continue working with a consultancy for the long term or, after accumulating 5-6 years of experience, venture into opening your consultancy, provided you have the necessary investment.

I am seeking advice on how to land a job in a corporate law firm and understand the scope of labor laws.

Dear friend,

The legal profession is such that it takes time to find one's footing. The real practice of a lawyer often begins after the age of 40. Therefore, if you aspire to become a successful lawyer, it is essential to demonstrate patience and persist in your efforts.

To enhance your skills, two key aspects are crucial. Firstly, it is important to understand how arguments are presented in court. Thus, attending court cases will provide you with invaluable firsthand experience. Secondly, honing your drafting skills is vital. To achieve this, work on improving your command of the English language and grammar. It is worth noting that there are some grammatical errors in your previous post. It is not only essential to be a competent lawyer but also to reflect professionalism in your written communication.

Thank you,

Labour law has enough scope and work. To be a successful lawyer, you have to be patient, work, get known, and interact with a variety of interested and connected people. Use your work with consultancy to develop your knowledge. Learn from your seniors how clients are handled, court is tackled, and conduct in the courtroom. Learn to be eloquent and articulate in court. Keep knowledge up to date and have case references by heart. So be patient and focus on labour laws. Join some additional classes on labour law to get deeper knowledge on Labour law. With so many changes coming up in the field, you have much scope to grow, earn, and be successful if your attitude, knowledge, and etiquette are correct.
