Hello everyone. I am a law graduate from Delhi University. When I was in the 2nd and 3rd years of college, I interned with an AOR and one senior advocate at Patiala House. Upon completing my LLB from DU, it was very difficult for me to find a job. I was the only person in my whole family with a law background, which meant I did not have any connections or references in any law firm. After my internships, I realized that practicing law was not something I wanted to pursue. Just two days after my last LLB exam, I landed a job as a legal associate at L*O.com. However, there was no growth, and our tasks were limited to making calls to clients to convince them to hire a lawyer. It felt like a waste of time. I always aspired to work in a corporate law firm given my commerce background and the promising scope it offers. Due to a lack of opportunities, I ended up joining a labor law consultancy, hoping to gain some legal knowledge at least.
Challenges for Freshers in the Corporate World
In the corporate world, every company seeks candidates with at least 1 or 2 years of experience. Despite my efforts to break into a corporate law firm, my status as a fresher hindered my job prospects. If every firm demands candidates with 1 or 2 years of experience, how can freshers like me gain that initial experience?
Scope and Limitations of Labor Law
Now, with 1.5 years of experience in labor laws, I have come to realize that the scope of labor law is quite limited. You either continue working with a consultancy for the long term or, after accumulating 5-6 years of experience, venture into opening your consultancy, provided you have the necessary investment.
I am seeking advice on how to land a job in a corporate law firm and understand the scope of labor laws.
