Hi everyone,

I need your help urgently. I have HR experience, but I'm working as a front desk officer. Actually, there are two partners; one of my bosses hired me as an HR executive + front desk officer. When I joined, the second boss emailed me saying, "I will review your job description after 3 months; now you have to perform FDO with zero involvement in HR activities." I have completed 5 months, but my second boss is not responding to me. Please advise on how to write an effective email to my boss to change my job description and request HR work. Should I leave this job because I have two master's degrees and three years of HR executive experience, but now I am just doing FDO work, and my boss does not want to listen to me?

Thank you.

Dear Mubbara,

You may use the following draft for your email:

Subject: Permission to Work in HR Department

Dear Sir,

As you are aware, I have been working at [name of your company] since [date]. I had applied for the position of [name of the position], and my interview was also conducted for the same role. However, upon my selection, Mr. [name of the partner] sent me an email asking me to handle a dual role of Front Desk Officer (FDO) and also as HR Executive. Although I started working as FDO since [date], I have yet to have the opportunity to work in the HR Department.

Sir, when I was placed in the position of FDO, I was informed that I would be transferred to the HR Department after three months. It has now been five months since I began working as FDO. Therefore, I am making an earnest plea to be reinstated in the HR Department.

I hold a qualification in HR and have three years of experience as an HR Executive. I am keen to further my career in the field of HR. However, there is a misalignment between my career aspirations and the tasks assigned to me. Aligning my current responsibilities with my past experience will help keep me motivated. Prolonged involvement in non-HR activities is not beneficial for my career. Hence, this request.

Regards,

[Your complete name]

Thanks,
