I recently received an offer from Level Org. However, I was not happy with that opportunity and was seeking a better one. Now, I have accepted a very good offer and joined a CMM5 company. A person who appears to be a middleman from Level Org is causing me a lot of trouble. He has threatened to blacklist my CV unless I pay him money.

It seems that a middleman and an HR representative from the small organization are involved in this scandal. I am truly worried. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Your post is not too clear. What does "I recently got an offer from Level org" mean? You have joined a CMM5 company, so how is the middleman coming into the picture? Please give a clear picture so that members can advise you properly. Mainly, do not worry about blackmail, etc., if your documents are in order.

Okay. Let me explain to you.

I got an offer from Company A. However, I was not happy with that. How did I get the offer? It's because of someone very close to the HR team, so he is the middleman. There is a lot of politics, so I decided not to join here.

After a few days of hunting, I got another offer from Company B, and I joined B. Meanwhile, I rejected the first offer from A. I also sent an email stating that I will not be able to take this up.

My issue is with the person who was acting as a middleman or mediator, asking me for money; otherwise, he will put me on a blacklist where nobody can offer me anything in the future. Why is this so? It's all about my wish. Why should I entertain such people, and what can be done? Please help me.

I was supposed to treat him just as a friend, but nothing more I have committed to. I was not aware that he is doing business here. He said no matter where I am, I should pay him for the offer. What kind of business is this??

Dear Dharani,

You have rejected the offer from Company A. However, did you accept the offer letter and then decide not to join? If yes, were any conditions mentioned in the offer letter for turning down the offer after acceptance?

Secondly, before accepting the offer letter from Company A, did you make any deals, verbally or otherwise, with the middle person? If you have not agreed to pay any brokerage, then he does not have any locus standi in this matter. The matter is between you and Company A. Acceptance or rejection of the offer is solely the decision of either party. The third party can only facilitate the employer-employee relationship and nothing else.

If the so-called mediator starts troubling you, I recommend recording telephonic discussions with him. Politely inform him that there was no agreement to pay him any money, and therefore, he should cease communication via phone or any other media. If he persists with his calls, you may need to lodge a complaint at the police station.

Regarding the blacklisting of your candidacy, this is purely a sterile threat. Do not give much weight to such threats.

Thanks,

Dinesh Divekar

Please pay no attention to that person. If he or she persists, write to the highest authority with the proof of every communication.

Please do not budge into such practices. Rather, nip them in the bud.

Wish you all the best!

Hey, thanks everyone.

@dinesh - Even company A is not concerned about my candidature. They seem to have the attitude of "your wish, no more discussion." There is such an agreement. I initially accepted but then rejected.

Yeah, of course, I will not pay him. Thanks, Nabo, all of you for the very good explanations. I will come back to you in case of any questions and concerns.

Please lodge a police complaint immediately. One of my friends faced the same situation. A police complaint was lodged against the consultant for blackmail and extortion. He was picked up by the cops and is now in custody. You need to teach a lesson to such unscrupulous elements.
