Hello Experts,

For around 4 years, I have been working in the IT industry. Previously, I worked with 2 employers, and I have all relieving letters and experience letters from them.

Now, the situation is as follows:

1. I have a 1-year gap in my engineering studies in my first year. My duration of engineering study was from 2005 to 2010.

2. However, while completing my employment form, I mistakenly put my duration as 2006 to 2010. I cleared my first year in 2006-2007, second year in 2007-2008, third year in 2008-2009, and completed my BE in 2009-2010.

3. After discussing with HR in my current company, they informed me that the degree duration should be 2005-2010 instead of 2006-2010.

4. Since I have used the duration 2006-2010 in all employment forms with my previous organizations, will this cause any issues?

5. Are there any scenarios where if my previous employers discover such a discrepancy, the experience from those employers would become invalid, rendering the relieving and experience letters useless in the future?

6. Could this discrepancy cause any problems with my current employment?

Please advise.

Thanks,

Hi,

Your mentioning the duration of your engineering from 2006 to 2010 in place of 2005-2010 amounts to the suppression of facts. As a matter of fact, suppression of material facts is considered a grave act of misconduct. Now you have to explain to your employer that by mentioning the duration from 2005-2010 to 2006-2010, you only wanted to record the duration of your active studies leading to the completion of your engineering degree and not to derive any benefit whatsoever. Besides, this does not make any material/substantial difference as far as your employment is concerned. You have to admit (not on record) and accept it as an inadvertent mistake which you will not repeat in the future.

It depends on how well you are able to sell your point.

Hi,

Thank you for your response. I will definitely do the things suggested by you. However, I am concerned because until now, for each employer, I have listed my duration as 2006-2010 instead of 2005-2010. Will the university take any action on this? Please advise.

Thanks
