Dear all,

In my life, I have read hundreds of quotes and lines, but this one has shaken something deep inside me. So, I thought of sharing. I am still trying to grasp the real meaning behind it:

"Truth can always be told but can never be expressed, and a lie can always be expressed but can never be told."

I tried to delve deeper into it. The more I dug, the more I realized the inadequacy of words. Any thoughts or insights on this?

Thank you.

Dear Ashish,

Thank you for your private message through which I found this post. I tried to search for the quote you have given; I could not find it on the web. However, I found some good links to discussions about telling 'truth' and 'lies' at https://www.google.co.uk/#q=Truth+ca...+never+be+told.

Kindly read the discussions at Do people deserve to know the truth, even if it isn't in their best interest? | A conversation on TED.com and let us know what example you will give before I air my views. If I recall correctly, I had quoted the following Subhashita in Sanskrit sometime back:

"satyam bruyat priyam bruyat na bruyat satyam apriyam

priyam ca nanrutam bruyat esha dharmah sanatanah" Satyam Bruyat Priyam Bruyat Na Bruyat Satyam Apriyam - Spiritual Forums.

I have not given its translation in English, as I have given the link.

You will find more links to discussions on that at https://www.google.co.uk/#q=satyam+bruyat+priyam+bruyat.

Dear Simhan,

Thank you for replying and showing interest in the quote above. This quote is from an OSHO lecture about truth and lies. He was explaining the story of the ten bulls from Zen monks. He referred to truth as something that can never be fully expressed but can only be told. If something is true, then it stands on its own; nothing more is needed. Words cannot truly express the essence of truth. Similarly, he discussed the concept of lies.

Regards
