Understanding Reference and Background Checks in HR Recruitment - CiteHR

Can anyone kindly suggest the process for a background check? Suppose we interviewed a candidate, and he is selected. Can we conduct a background check from the company where he is currently working? However, this could potentially harm his reputation in his current workplace if he is not selected. Additionally, what is the exact difference between a reference check and a background check?

Background Check Process

At the time of the interview itself, you may check with the candidate whether we can go ahead with the background check at their present employment. Upon their confirmation, we have to act. Also, if we need to proceed with background checks, it should only be if we are completely satisfied with the person (I mean satisfied for recruitment).

Even if you do not conduct any checks prior to recruitment, we will perform a post-background check and seek confirmation. In the event of any negative feedback, we will proceed with termination. There is no harm in that. This is generally what happens in the industry.
