Insights on Recruitment Practices, HR Roles, and HR Admin Distinction in a Job Interview Context - CiteHR

Hi, this is Meshak from Hyderabad. I have completed my PGDM with HR as my specialization in 2013. I would like to know if US staffing is a part of HR or if it is a completely different designation. Secondly, are IT recruiting and HR recruiting the same? Does recruiting experience help me get a job abroad? Is there any function such as HR admin? Recently, I interviewed for HR at Value Labs in Hyderabad. I successfully completed 4 rounds but did not pass the final round because I mentioned my interest in HR admin. The feedback I received from the interviewer was, "There is nothing such as HR admin, HR and admin are completely different." Is this true? Kindly help, please. Thank you.

Dear Meshak87,

You fired 3 questions back to back.

Recruitment and US Staffing

1. Recruitment, indeed, is a very integral part of the HR avenue. The foremost insight of the goals set for an HR team is to manage the HUMAN RESOURCES, and closing positions with the best-suited candidate makes all the efforts worth it. There are quite a number of modes by which a Recruitment Executive administers this, one of the most popular these days being US Staffing. So, yes, US Staffing is included in Recruitment exercises within HR.

Now, will US Staffing get you to land a lucrative job abroad? The probability is very slim as the job is entirely outsourced. You may get foreign trips once you start to show your mettle in the field, but that is usually for a short time and only because the firm wants you to gain a taste of the profiles and attributes of the positions you would be hiring next (this insight comes from my personal experience in the field).

HR Recruiter vs. IT Recruiter

2. An HR Recruiter is responsible for recruiting for all positions that are open in an organization. These positions may or may not be solely for IT staff. IT Recruitment, as the name implies, is primarily focused on IT positions. You don't get to handle Non-IT staffing in this role.

Having said that, the terms HR Recruiter and IT Recruiter have been used quite interchangeably for some time.

HR vs. Admin

3. HR and Admin are two completely different arenas. HR acts as the intermediary between employees and the employer, ensuring the employees' well-being. On the other hand, Admin focuses on providing resources for the overall well-being of the workplace. HR is a subset of Admin, and the Key Result Areas (KRAs) are distinctly different for the two. However, these two areas can sometimes be used interchangeably based on the administrative convenience of the organization. In simple terms, Admin is the Management's tool to keep the firm functioning as it should, while HR aims to optimize the personnel involved in tasks.

I hope this makes sense.
