As a lecturer, I had impressed upon my boss that I need not be present at the university when I had no classes to teach. I had told him that in this age of computerization and internet facility, I could answer questions even on weekends, if he allowed me to work from home. However, if he insisted that I be present 8x5 every week, I would not offer remote guidance facility. He accepted my proposal.

It's seen that you always take a very keen interest in asking and replying to messages. I was removed by my previous company, and now they want me to rejoin, but they haven't contacted me via phone or email directly asking me to come back. They have only hinted at it through indirect sources. I requested them to call me or have someone from the company call me if they are serious about me rejoining so that I can make a decision. Alternatively, I suggested they provide me with some work from home, as it is a job placement company, and with the pay, I can meet my basic needs. However, I have not received any response so far. I even sent an email asking if they want me to rejoin, but there has been no reply from their end. I am currently jobless.

If I were in your position, I would not have initiated the move without them contacting me officially. How do you know that the intermediary was not really representing them but making you feel good?

Firstly, what kind of question is this? Secondly, the question looks like an incomplete statement. Why should you aim to please your boss, and for what reason? Do we work in the office to impress our bosses and seniors, or do we actually work in the office to gain knowledge, experience, and advance our careers?

Another question to consider is if the organization is utilizing technology, will they allow employees to connect to the office remotely and to what extent. It is essential to understand the level to which employees are permitted to access the network, etc.

I got an offer from my previous company who had removed me and wants me to rejoin. I would be ready to rejoin if they give an official call. If they cannot call me, then it's better to offer me a job working from home. I came to know about this through a mediator, but I am not convinced by the way of approach. It's a job placement consultancy. Even remote access is not an issue for me.

If it is true then the company's management is steeped into "hypocrisy" then it's not a culturally good company. I wonder if you read Steve Jobs's Biography authored by Walter Isaacson. It really was a super book of an amazing man called "Steve Jobs." He writes, "Steve was filled with contradictions. He was a counterculture rebel who became a billionaire. He eschewed material objects yet made objects of desire. He talked, at times, about how he wrestled with these contradictions. His counterculture background combined with his love of electronics and business was key to the products he created. They combined artistry and technology." In that, you will see how ruthless he was with all his relationships. I quoted this because if they were serious about what they were doing and you were one who could add great value, then they would have come to talk to you directly and also agreed to all conditions you've placed on them.

I've known several such people with whom I am still in touch with and there is one who works for us too in this manner for 13 years now; first, she worked out of her house in Bangalore then now she is working out of Noida.
Putting all these things together, I would strongly suggest that you come off the "illusion" and begin to lay out plans as to what exactly you would want to do.

Just don't give nonsense suggestions. We are not puppets; when they want, they will take out; when they want me back, they want me to join their company. I am still not convinced by the way they approach things. A thousand times I told them to come for a direct conversation, let's discuss that, but they are not stopping their dramas at all.
