Hi seniors, please help me. My name is Monica, and I am a Deputy Manager HR in a construction company (regional office). Here in this company, everything happens from HO-Kolkata. I report to the director in the regional office. I oversee recruitments for all sites - senior level, middle, and junior level. I handle admin and finance.
Seeking Career Advancement
Now, I want to change my job and apply for a senior-level position. However, when I receive calls, they ask for skills in Training & Development, Employee engagement, statutory compliances, and Performance management, which I lack knowledge in. I feel like I have wasted my career and am demotivated. I can't pursue a change now because of my lack of expertise. There is no one here to guide me or from whom I can learn. I wish to gain practical knowledge and learn from an HR manager or senior, but there is no one here in my HR domain to mentor me.
Please help me. What should I do now? Whenever I receive an interview call, the job descriptions scare me as I lack the required skills. Seniors, please help me.
PLEASEEEEEE

First of all, please do not despair. We all feel demotivated at times; it's okay, it is allowed. However, please realize that it is only you who can pull yourself up. We can help and advise, but ultimately you have to do it. Remember the proverb, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."
Reflect on Your Achievements
Think of all that you have achieved. Think of all the issues you have resolved, with or without help. You will see that, in fact, you are quite good at what you do. But now you want to progress, and you think you know nothing?
Understanding Job Descriptions
Job Descriptions (JD's) are worded in a very technical manner. When you think about it and break down all the components, you will find that you actually know more than you think. The way forward is to ensure your knowledge is up to date. To do that, trawl through websites such as this and the internet generally. Get up to date and tackle the terminology.
Seek Opportunities for Growth
If it is practical, ask to be moved to the Head Office (HO). If not, ask for further training either now or at your next appraisal. Tell your boss you want to improve so that you can do a good job better. In other words, Monica, take control, don't despair. We are all here for you and to help you. Keep asking...
I am certain other members will also respond.
