Hi,
I have completed my MBA in Human Resources Management through correspondence. I have secured a job in a well-reputed company as a customer support admin. I am unsure whether this job will lead to a better career for me. Can anyone help clear my doubt?

I want to tell you one thing, then decide whether you can achieve growth from the company and job offer.
One person initially worked in customer support and later secured a job in the HR Department of an MNC company through a reference. Even though he obtained the job through a reference, it was challenging for him to sustain the position.
Now, decide for yourself.

Being a customer support admin may not be the best career path for an MBA in HR. However, if that is the only job option you have, you can join this and leave once you get another job in an HR role. Good luck!

Dear Vinu,
The only value a company will ever create is the value that comes from its customers. Businesses succeed by acquiring, retaining, and expanding their customer base. Customers are the sole reason for a company to establish factories, hire employees, schedule meetings, or engage in any business activities. Without customers, companies would not exist. Some companies have been established with customer-centric business models, where customer support serves as their core strategy, providing them with a competitive advantage. This forms the foundation of customer support administration, which is closely linked to Behavioral Science, a component of HR. I believe this is indeed a promising career path.

The whole modern-day economy is customer-driven. Incidentally, as a soft skill trainer, I conduct training programs on Customer Service Excellence (even yesterday I conducted a program for a company in Bangalore) and also Internal Customer Service.
These days getting the first job is real tough. Grab any opportunity that comes in your way, irrespective of your education, degree, etc. Try to learn anything and everything in your present job role and develop yourself. It is very difficult these days to get the job you want, the job you desire in the first instance. As one of our friends has mentioned, work on this job, learn the techniques, and when you get the right opportunity, you can move on.
However, if you start liking the job, who knows, you may become an expert in customer support over time. Your MBA education will certainly be of use to you in any role if you utilize your education in your job role.
Best wishes

Dear Vinu,
Getting a job in customer support admin in a big company with a good salary is one thing, while working here. If you are serious and aspire to work as an HR professional in the future, then keep trying for HR opportunities. The internal profile you are currently in is not purely an HR job. Some content may be linked, but it's not a purely HR profile. Do not sit idle while searching for a new job in HR. You may keep looking, or you can also talk to your management. They may transfer you to the HR department if they find you suitable.

If you are in a customer support role, you should feel happy since an HR professional always has to interact with other departments within the organization, which are the internal customers of HR. Your exposure through this job will help in developing a vital leadership competency called 'customer focus.' You will be successful in the business environment if you do not rigidly confine yourself to your academic specialization (i.e., HR).

Dear All,
All jobs are equally important; hence, they exist. No job is available that will automatically lead an individual to a top position. Every person must start with their first job and then continue to acquire skills to prosper. A university degree may assist in securing the initial job, but it is the individual's self-developed skills that truly matter.
The key for any nation, including India, is for everyone to perform their job sincerely, loyally, and with high quality to ensure customer satisfaction.
