I am working for an architecture company that specializes in commercial architecture. I need your help as we are looking for a Business Development Manager. The major question is: does an architecture company need someone for business development? However, my management believes that I have to do so. What points should be kept in mind while recruiting the right person for this role? What qualifications should a candidate possess?

Salespersons are much needed in today's market regardless of the product or service. Hiring a salesperson can provide several advantages:
1. Increased business
2. Inflow of new ideas
3. Increase in external contacts
4. Promotion
Criteria for an architect:
1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
2. Course in Architecture preferred or experience working with an Architectural firm.
3. The major criteria are communication and convincing abilities.

But our sir told me to look out for someone who has a pleasant personality and is good at presentations, preferably from an airlines or media background with knowledge of corporate sales, and who is interested in selling our services. So, in order to find such a person, what can be done? What approach can I adopt?

The Business Development Manager or Marketing person should have the same background in Architecture for technical presentations. Individuals from other sectors such as aviation or media may not possess the expertise in architecture.
