Dear All,

I am working in the manufacturing industry. My seniors, like the DGM and managers from other departments, are not from HR. They are telling me there is not much work in the HR department. I know they are wrong, but I feel really bad that someone can say something like this. I want to share this with all Cite HR members. People ask on a daily basis what work HR professionals are doing.

Friends, I am waiting for your answers. What should I do in this case?

Dear Dipti,

We are not here to explain to others about our work or tasks that we perform on a day-to-day basis. We are appointed by the organization solely to carry out our duties in the workplace.

Have you ever observed a swan swimming in the pond? When viewed from the outside, you can see the smooth swimming of the swan. However, if you observe from underwater, you can notice the fast paddling of the swan.

Similarly, other employees are merely observing from the outside, unable to see our workload and stress. If we do not perform our jobs, they will not receive selection, appointment letters, daily attendance records, promotions, performance appraisals, leaves, salaries, other benefits, PF & ESI benefits, etc. If they leave the organization, they will not even receive the Full and Final Settlement, Relieving Letter/Experience Letter, PF Claim, etc.

Therefore, simply ignore them with a sparkling smile and do not bother replying to those people. Responding will only waste your energy and time. However, they will surely understand one day.

Thank you.
