Hi,
I am Dipak and want to confirm if a proprietary company experience counts towards a future company or next job. Because I am leaving my current company and joining a new company, but the problem is that it's not a private or public limited company. The company is in BRANDING AND MARKETING, and I also want a career in the same field. Please guide me or give me correct suggestions. I was searching for a job in the same profile and found one, but the issue is the company is a proprietary one.
Regards,
Deepak

If you will be able to provide some evidence about your employment with this proprietorship firm, I'm sure there would not be any problems in getting a job elsewhere on the basis of this experience.
There are many small unregistered firms which hire MBAs and then are able to give them good working experience. Just collect all the required documents, and then you can apply for a job. You should have a joining letter, appointment or offer letter, salary slips or bank documents, and an experience letter.

Hello Deepak,
To add to what Archana mentioned, please ensure you get your paperwork right, since proprietor-owned companies are notorious for shoddy/slipshod paperwork. This includes your joining letter, appointment or offer letter, salary slips, etc., with this company. So, this reason could be a hindrance, more than anything else, in your next job hop.
Also, from what I know about your field (BRANDING AND MARKETING), many of the high-profile companies in your field are actually proprietor-owned or at best, partnership-owned. Therefore, as long as you focus on learning and applying your experience, your next job hop shouldn't be difficult at all.
All the best.

Hi Stish!
Thank you and Archana for providing a platform for my career because I was confused before joining and after joining about whether experience in proprietary firms or companies is valuable for future opportunities. Now, I am a little happier and giving 100% effort to my company. I am saying this because I have 4 years of experience in sales and marketing, such as HDFC (personal loan DSA), Cholamandalam DBS in the loan department, Vodafone Essar (off-role), HDFC Life as a Sales Development Manager, and my current company as SDM in branding and marketing. Please note my sector experience: 1 was banking as an executive, 2 was also banking loan dept, 3 was telecom, 4 was banking insurance sector. At that time, I didn't decide if I wanted a career in banking or insurance, and I was interested in event management and branding. I like this profile, but I didn't pursue it due to lack of a degree and references. Now that I have them, the package is very less because I don't have much experience in branding and event management. Still, I am happy because I got a job related to my hobbies. Do you have an idea of what package I should expect? I am currently receiving only 17k net per month.
Thanks and regards,
Deepak

Hello Deepak,
I suggest you don't bother about the package at this point in time - focus on learning the work, and the package will follow. Take my word for it. It's not very common for someone to get a job they like from Day 1, which you now have, at least after the not-so-happy Insurance/Bank jobs. Now, you have to ensure that your employer also likes your work. Put your best into the job, and the rest will follow.
All the best.
