Hello Flasher,

Where are you located and what industry do you work in? Also, what is the typical reply when you inquire about a salary increment? What was your appraisal rating? Remember, providing all the relevant details is crucial for receiving realistic suggestions from other members.

Hello,

I am located in the UAE, Abu Dhabi. I work in the fire and gas security system department as a project engineer. My salary is less than 2100, so I would like to ask for an increment as expecting any response from their side is not anticipated.

1st Option :- Talk to your immediate boss and send him your performance appraisal files. Show him the growth you have given to the company since your inception.
2nd Option :- Look for an opportunity and join.
3rd Option :- Be happy with what you are getting.

Dear Flasher and tajsateesh,

I am sorry to post this here. Anyway, it is true that this is a great site for all HR solutions, @Flasher.

1. You should judge your performance according to the Boss's criteria, especially in the area of salary increments.
2. If there are criteria for increments set by the Boss, then humbly request for the increment.
3. You must be getting the increment.

Thanks,
Salem Mohammed

Hi Flasher and Tajsateesh,

FYI, Flasher - As Saleem has quoted, checked with your manager and know about your metrics and primary KRA's, ensure that each month you meet your metrics. At the end of the appraisal, you will receive a good rating and a salary hike.

Hi Flasher,

With reference to your post, I can say that it all depends on your company. Seniors at this forum would like to know many points before they can advise. Please answer these questions:

- What kind of management runs your company? Is it:
- Single owner or partners?
- Shareholding Company?

- Does your company have an HR department?
- Does your company have an appraisal system in place? If yes, then what was the last appraisal like? What was your score and the feedback outcome of the appraisal?

- When you signed the employment offer of this company, does it have any clause on salary revision?
- Are you aware of your KRAs? Do you have a job description outlining your roles and duties?

I understand that these are many questions to ask, but once you have answers to these questions, you will also get closer to the answer you are seeking.

Best Wishes

Dear Flasher,

Your query/problem is how to get an increment.

Every organization, be it foreign or Indian, has its own policy and procedure to provide benefits and fringe benefits to its employees. As far as the policy of increment is concerned, it is usually based on two criteria: periodicity and performance.

An increment is the increase in pay allowed after a certain period. It is up to the management of an organization to decide the period; it may be one year or three years. Usually, it is given annually, i.e., after every 12 months. In some organizations, particularly in government ones, it is an annual feature, whereas in most organizations, increment is linked with performance. It is entirely governed by the productivity of an employee, which is judged by a senior-level manager or the employee's immediate boss. Based on the productivity report, the question of whether an employee is entitled to an increment or not, and the amount of the increment, is decided.

So, Mr. Flasher, please check your management policy regarding increments. I hope that afterward, you will understand why an increment has not been given to you. In case you are eligible for an increment but the management is not providing one, you may write a representation to the management to address your grievance. If your grievance is still not addressed, you may resort to the employment laws of that country or resign from the organization when a better opportunity arises.

Thanks,

YCB

Hi,

You must create a report or an Excel MIS that includes all your work from start to end, highlighting the major areas of your work. You should discuss this with HR, and if they inquire about your work, show them the file that outlines your job responsibilities and performance. I believe this would be a better way to initiate communication with HR regarding a possible increment.

Hello sir,

It's a single-owner company, with no shareholding. We have an HR department, but there is no good system; they make their own rules. There is no appraisal system; if someone's appraisal they want to do, they do it on their basis, meaning who is close to them. I don't like to do that as well OPS-MANAGER with them as well. I have not signed any employment offer; they didn't provide me with one; they just had me sign HIPPA-POLICIES.

And what is KRA? I didn't get it.

Thank you so much, sir, for spending your time on my query.
