Recently, I had a job offer from a travel company, and the owner of the company was also outsourced by a US travel company. I was under the impression that I too would be associated with the US company. However, when I discussed the salary slip, it came as if the manager had hired me for his US travel company, and only his name would be on the slip. This meant that even though I am servicing US travel companies' clients, technically, I am working for this manager here in India under his name, not even the company name.
Any suggestions to straighten things out? No contract has been signed, and no appointment letter has been issued yet. It has only been a month.
Can such a salary slip even exist? Please guide!

It is really a strange situation. I hope members take note of your plight and offer suggestions. If you have sufficient documentation, maybe you can file a case for misrepresentation and cheating.

Legally speaking, the documents will speak. If the offer spells out misrepresentation, then you have legal recourse. As it is still in the offer stage, unless you accept it, a contract does not come into existence. If you refuse it, you will be out of the mess that you say you are likely to get in.

Just for info - The offer letter was only emailed and not printed. It did not mention the company but it did say, "My interview was scheduled with a US based company." Thus, the email from the employer may come in handy.
Anyways, I shall wait until the appointment letter is issued. I will review it and give my feedback.

We find that several multinational companies hire a resident representative in India, and he goes about recruiting people. It is similar to what software firms are doing. The software firms obtain an order from a foreign company and employ people.
In this case, the person hiring is an individual. In my opinion, the person who hired you will be getting a lump sum amount from which he pays your pay. As you have indicated that you will revert to us with full details, we shall comment upon hearing from you.

In my opinion, don't waste time and start looking for another job or leave this job ASAP. Don't waste too much time thinking. One more thing, never join without an offer or appointment letter.

Dear Fazil,
You are right; you will be an employee of the Indian representative and not the original company. You may continue until you wish and get another job. Don't give any bond, etc. Go for another job where the company hires you, provides an offer/appointment letter, and you are clear about it. Best of luck. Don't panic.

I did revert to the employer on this issue. He said he is in the process of starting a firm where he and I will be serving after hours for the company in the US. The current salary provided to me is $880 approx with a bonus of 8.33% + 30 days of leave. Mind you, there are NO national holidays, and we work 5 days a week. Should I trust him or not? Although I did get my salary on time, I am sure this person is making money from the US company for my services to them.
For your information - I do talk to my department manager in the US on the phone but did not discuss terms with US people. Additionally, this employer has asked me not to talk about my salary to the US manager, etc. However, I would love to be a direct employee with a US-based company. I am thus confused.
