Greetings,

Recently, we had a discussion on whether access to online social sites through the internet should be provided to employees at work. We had different opinions where it was shared that access to the internet works as a deterrent to productivity, whereas others opposed it by saying that such access does not affect work but rather acts as an energizer. Studies prove that the best companies rank highest in terms of online social networking among their employees. Please cast your vote in favor of such internet access as an enabler or a deterrent at work.

Dear (Cite Contribution),

I personally think we at the workplace do get bored/tired after 3-4 hours of "Dedicated Working." In this situation, these social sites help to mitigate/minimize the boredom/monotony. This is my personal experience at my workplace.

Dear Prashant,

Thank you for your comment. It was conventional wisdom that work hours are primarily for productive efforts. However, it was interesting to read the discussion and the articles mentioned in it. I look forward to finding the result of this poll. I will share my learning.

Dear Prashant and Anil,

Thank you for your comments. If you see, the vote is supporting access to social sites. I have interviewed industry leaders, including the Head of HR, and in their opinion, a healthy atmosphere and good leadership are what can drive productivity. In fact, they supported employee blogging and promoting a healthy atmosphere on the social network. I know a CHRO of an IT giant who asks to be friended on Facebook right when he meets his new team member.

I am looking forward to the results of this poll to understand how our members value the utility of internet access to online social communities.
