Hello, everyone. I'm a 23-year-old guy currently working in the HR domain at a logistics company in New Delhi. My post-graduation is from a distance learning program, and I have a total of 3 years of experience in the HR domain.

My question is: I want to grow my career in HR. So, I am seeking suggestions on how I can improve myself for HR prospects.

- Is a distance learning PG degree recognized by MNC companies?
- What type of courses or studies do I need to pursue?
- Lastly, I envision myself as a Regional Head of HR in the next 3 years. Is this achievable? If so, what steps should I take to reach that goal?

Your guidance will be very supportive for me.

There are two things in a career: qualification and knowledge. Knowledge can be acquired through practical work experience. I know of people with impressive qualifications, but when it comes to knowledge on a particular aspect of HR, they draw a blank. During and post-COVID, numerous online courses have become available. Regardless of whether you are applying to an MNC company, you can still acquire online qualifications and gain practical knowledge on essential HR subskills such as talent acquisition, onboarding, competency mapping, performance management systems, employee engagement, full and final settlement, and training or learning and development. Having knowledge supported by a qualification from a recognized institute is essential. If you possess both, you can secure a job in any major company. I don't believe they discriminate based on how or where you obtained your qualifications, as long as they are genuine. Best wishes

Have you tried PGDHRM from MSSW Chennai? I have seen a lot of HR professionals with MSSW alumni tag. Regarding the course, it's an online instructor-led program for 12 months covering broad areas in HR with a lot of guest lectures. This is good for someone who is looking to add weightage or credentials to their resume, particularly for career advancement in HR. However, at the end of the day, a course is only a credential; it all comes down to what you have learned, what you bring to the table under practical circumstances. Sometimes a good course can boost your confidence in your area of expertise, which will, in turn, reflect in your work, and your career progresses from there.

Well, 3 years is quite a crunch; generally, you would need at least 6 to 8 years to have an overall understanding of your domain to groom yourself to a leadership position and acquire the necessary skill sets and knowledge. I would say forget about titles, work on yourself, act like a head HR from now itself, take ownership of your tasks, be proactive, and I'm sure you will reach where you would want to be sooner or later.
