For an employee, the gross salary is 45,000. He joined 8 days before the end of the month (April 23). So his gross salary for that month is 12,000. For Karnataka Professional Tax (PT), do we need to consider his April gross salary (12,000) for PT or his complete gross salary (45,000) for Karnataka PT filing?

Hi, Professional Tax to be calculated on Earned Gross salary and not on actual Gross salary.

PT is calculated on earned gross only & as its just 12,000/- in the month of April PT is not applicable. WEF April 2023 PT is not applicable for the employees drawing wages below 25,000

Thank you, Lakshmi Narayanan It makes sense for more states to do this rather than cling to a small amount as revenue per year... Hope others will follow their lead
