Hi, what is the Indian law for office work timing in an education institute running under a trust?
We have the 2nd and 4th Saturday off and all Sundays off.
Our office timing is from 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM (including lunch), and our total working hours are 54 per week.
Kindly guide me on what we have to maintain, as our HR manager is asking us not to take off on Saturday and work for 54 hours a week without overtime. Is this correct as per Indian Working Hours Law?

Educational institutes may be considered establishments. Normal working hours in India are 8 hours per day, excluding a lunch break of 0.5 hours.
In this scenario, if employees work from 9 am to 6 pm, including lunch, and work 6 days a week, the total working hours would be 51 hours, not 54 hours. This, in my opinion, is not perfect. Saturday may be a half-day or an off day, depending on the school authority's policy.
The majority of educational institutes operate 5 days a week, but there are also institutes that run for 6 days a week, with Saturday being a half-day to ensure not more than 48 hours of work in a week.

I have not noticed that the institute has 2nd & 4th Saturday off along with all Sundays. Therefore, total working hours in those weeks - 2nd & 4th Saturday are less than 48 hrs. The problem lies with 1st and 3rd Saturday weeks.
