Hi friends,

I am Parimala, pursuing MBA in HR, and I am going to take my 3rd-semester exams this December. Actually, I have one more semester to go. To add value to my course, what can I do in this last semester? Are there any additional courses you would suggest? Also, my project topic is on Training and Development.

Thank you,
Pari

Hi Parimala,

You can choose to do your Project Assignment/Dissertation project on any of your areas of interest in HR. Some topics which give a lot of scope to learn and also generate interest in the minds of recruiters (will be very helpful during placements):
1) Competency Mapping
2) HR Audit
3) Psychometric Testing - Boon or a Bane to the HR fraternity

You can take an industry or a company as the base for your project and do the research on the same. Though these topics are common, they have a lot of opportunities for you to explore. These are a few topics that I had personally considered when I was doing my project work. Please avoid doing a cut-copy-paste job from the internet.

Hope this helps.

Hi Swetha,

First of all, I would like to thank you for suggesting ideas for my project work. Yes, I have selected the topic "T n D." I am considering linking it with another topic such as competency building through TnD. Alternatively, should I link TnD with change management, performance management, or employee retention? What do you think would be the better approach, or do you have any other suggestions? I am eagerly awaiting your response.

Thank you,
Parimala

Hi Parimala,

I suggest that Training and Development (T&D) linked with retention will make sense. Companies have stopped merely focusing on recruiting resources and have instead started planning to retain the existing talent pool. This subject will surely add value to your CV.

Hello Suresh,

Yes, thanks for your suggestion. One more thing, I would like to ask: as this is my last semester, I need to prepare for my interviews. Can you suggest some books and sites that can help me at this moment?

Regards,
Parimala :)
