Dear sir,

I am a commerce graduate with 4.5 years of experience in HR & Admin. I completed my diploma in Labour Studies from Mumbai University (1 year part-time). Currently, I am pursuing PGDHRM from Symbiosis Institute of Distance Learning.

Is it necessary for me to pursue either a full-time or part-time MBA, or will my current education suffice to thrive in the HR profession? Please advise.

Regards,
Shailesh

Shailesh,

If you are doing PGDHRM from Symbiosis Institute of Distance Learning, it's equivalent to an MBA, so I don't think you need another MBA degree. Surviving in the profession needs working experience, and you have the PGDHRM, so it's sufficient, I think.

Thanks,
Dev

It would be wise to pursue a full-time MBA. There is a limit to what you can learn through a part-time MBA because you do not come from a specialized background, i.e., industry-specific. To simplify, if you have graduated in design and then pursued a part-time diploma in HR, a design firm may prefer you for a good position. However, as a generalist in your graduation, you need to become a specialist in HR. Therefore, take my advice and pursue it full-time. An average college with AICTE approval will suffice. Plan your finances accordingly as a major reason why graduates do not opt for a full-time MBA (especially in a private institute) is due to financial constraints. All the best!
