Dear All,
Please find attached the news about an explosion at Aarti Drugs located at Tarapur MIDC while making Methyl Nitro Imitazole.
The gist of the failures that I could identify from the news is listed below:
1. Their management is unable to provide the exact number of employees present during the explosion, indicating an improper head count or employee counting system.
2. The rise in the temperature of the reactor went unnoticed, implying inadequate or no process safety measures (such as interlocking with temperature).
Thank you.

I worked for almost 9 years in Tarapur Industrial area and understand fully how many companies operate there. It's really sad to note the accident and the negligence in operational control. One must see the natural nalas in the area. It is always technicolour with sometimes vapours emerging from the discharge. There is absolutely no control from the factories, and authorities naturally do not see this.

Hi,
It is very sad to know about the loss of valuable life for no fault of theirs. Mr. Nandish, it is rightly pointed out that people don't bother and wake up only if such incidents take place. I really don't know how they can compensate for the loss of such young life lost. We can only pray for those families who have lost their loved ones.
Hope now at least the government takes strict action against the concerned person so that such incidents are not repeated.
Regards,
Anita

Isn't a replica of another Bhopal in the making? Safety standards continue to be at the possible lowest. Any number of strict regulations do nothing to prevent such tragedies. My fear over our atomic reactors all around the country growing like hell. Who knows, there could be no chance of the next generation India.
Deep condolences to the bereaved.
