Hi Swapna,

Please see the enclosed file attached. It will teach you the calculations and various tax deductions applicable while processing the salary payroll. Go through the file carefully, and surely you will have the basic idea of how it works. It's a big process and requires lots of practice and learning.

If you are doing this for the first time, then theoretical and practical training will be required to understand the payroll concept.

Hi Swapna,

Anyway, greetings for your intention. Just have a look into the below issues:

1. Get enough information on which company you are going to have an interview. If all employees are getting more than 15000/- salary per month, there is no need to focus on ESIC.

2. PF: The PF department deducts 12% of every employee's basic salary, and for those whose basic is more than 6500/- per month, the PF department will deduct only 780/-.

3. Apart from these things, you should also look into the salary structure.

4. Focus on compensation.

Thanks & regards,

Hi,

My name is Naresh. I completed my MBA in 2012 with a specialization in Marketing and HR. At that time, I chose HR as a minor because I felt my skills were not sufficient for an HR role. However, I later realized why I shouldn't pursue a career in HR and questioned myself about my suitability for the HR role. The only reason I found was that until graduation, I studied in Telugu medium, which made me feel unable to communicate in English with others. Now, I have overcome this barrier and have undergone HR training at an institution. I have developed strong desires and aspirations for a career in HR.

Could you please tell me if my specialization would hinder my career during interviews? Also, what steps should I take to achieve my goals as a fresher, considering my MBA college did not provide me with the necessary knowledge?

Thank you & regards,
Naresh

Dear Manoj Devda,

The file provided by you is good. There is a mathematical error while calculating the due tax amount. The correct structure of the Taxability of Income in the IT Act for the assessment year 2013-14, relevant to the Financial Year 2012-13, is as follows:

Income Up to 200,000: NIL
Income 200,000 - 500,000: 10% on income exceeding Rs. 200,000
Income 500,000 - 1,000,000: 20% on income exceeding Rs. 500,000 plus Rs. 30,000 (10% on the initial slab of Rs. 300,000)
Income Above 1,000,000: 30% on income above Rs. 1,000,000 plus Rs. 130,000

Please make the necessary corrections in the Excel Sheet. The effort and presentation are commendable.
