Hi everyone,

I have completed my MBA in HR and have 1 year of experience in HR activities. However, I am now planning to pursue additional courses that can help me further my career. I am unable to leave my current job, so I am looking for distance learning programs.

Could anybody suggest courses that I can take?

Thank you!

Dear Shivani,

Since we are passing through a globalized, changed economy, organizations have to improve competitiveness as well as learning capabilities. It is the duty of the HR Manager to take on the challenging role of leading the organization to greater heights. Therefore, he should be a change agent for applying OD intervention strategies, including the overall restructuring of the organization. His duty involves improving the behavioral aspects and attitudes of employees to prevent mental blocks when adapting to changes in the organization. Therefore, tomorrow's HR Manager should be a psychologist. You can pursue a Master's Degree in Psychology, as well as a PG Diploma course in Guidance and Counseling through Distance Learning programs. For added value, SAP HR is also useful for aligning with the IT environment.

Thanks and regards,

Dear F Shivani,

Firstly, there is a need to define your career's goal; here, you are discussing the action plan only, which is not the sole path to success. I recommend establishing your goal first and then devising a corresponding plan, either based on suggestions from friends or through other means.

If you require further assistance in this regard, please feel free to call me at 9718593788. I would like to advise you not to leave your current job, as there are numerous resources available nowadays that can help you achieve your objectives without resigning.

Regards and best of luck,

You can do MSW (Master of Social Work) or PGD in Labour welfare and Personnel Management. SO far as the LL.B is concerned this is full time course. You can not do it by way of distance Learning.

I am also an MBA in HR. I couldn't get a job in HR, and it has been 4 years that I'm working in Operations. What will be the best career option for me? Also, would a Ph.D. in Management work for me or not? I'm basically looking for a job as well as a distance learning course that can benefit me.

Please suggest.

Dear Ehtesham,

There are enormous opportunities still available for SAP-HR. Tomorrow's HR system will be based on SAP. Most of the multinational organizations have already adopted the SAP system.

With regard to PG Diploma in Personnel Management, NIPM Kolkata (National Institute of Personnel Management) is a professional body of personnel management in India. The course details are available on their site Welcome to NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT!. After awarding the degree equivalent to an MBA, they will also provide professional Membership.

Regarding SAP, I believe Bangalore is the suitable place. I am not sure whether MSW and LLB can fulfill the future requirements of HR. If you are interested in legal aspects, you can pursue LLB. I can frankly say that the openings in SAP HR are more and pay packages are high.

Therefore, you have to do a lot of research in the area of SAP.

Dear Asok,

Thanks for your valuable information. I still have some queries:

1. Without certification in SAP, is it worth it?
2. Which institutes in Mumbai are offering SAP courses? Please recommend some good institutes that offer SAP training (other than certification).

Hope to hear from you soon.

Nowadays, employers also want to know where you did your MBA from, your specialization, and the subjects during your curriculum. This is an outcome of numerous poor-quality institutes offering something called an MBA, where numerous students just spend two years and a lot of money without really gaining the required knowledge or experience.
