Friends, I'm a 24-year-old woman. I completed my B.Com from Delhi University in 2008 through correspondence with a score of 40%. Alongside, I also pursued Doeacc A level, achieving just passing marks. I realized that I didn't want to pursue a career in computers. However, I have been unable to secure a job since then. I have only received offers for BPO jobs, which I am not interested in, and my parents are against night shifts. After 2008, I attempted to prepare for government jobs but was unsuccessful. Now, after three years post-graduation with no work experience, I am not receiving any job offers. I feel very depressed and burdensome on my parents. All my younger cousins and friends have successful careers with great job opportunities, some even working abroad. I feel like I am wasting my potential. Please, somebody, help and guide me.

Dear Riddhi,
First of all, please relax and try not to blame yourself for not getting a job. It is just a bad phase and surely it will pass by. Can you let me know your current location? Maybe I can help!!!

Hi,
Calm down, don't worry, there are a lot of people in this situation. You made certain choices in life that didn't work out; it's okay, don't sulk over time that has passed. Focus on the present and future.
First, get this fear and opinion out of your mind regarding your age and gender as obstacles to getting a job.
Second, prioritize what you want in life at the moment – Money or Career Line? I presume you will say both! But as per the situation, which is your ultimate motivation? Money or Career! If it's money, then just pick up any job that would pay you a decent salary. You can consider back-office jobs, receptionist, front office, counter sales, merchandiser, executive assistant, or secretary, etc. If you have good computer knowledge, you can work in computer teaching institutes to teach basics of computers, etc. I understand my suggestion may not fetch you a fancy salary package, but it will cushion your frustration regarding taking care of your personal expenses. Once you get a decent job that takes care of your bills, then put your thinking cap on and focus on your interests - seek, search, or hunt for the relevant opportunity in which you want to build your career. Prepare yourself with the skills and knowledge you need to enter that field (don't run behind certifications; you can gain knowledge if you seek it). Always calculate the cost-benefit analysis of the courses you invest in.
Third, stabilize your mind and mentality towards making a career choice; don't chase after glamorous careers. Prepare yourself for the challenges you will face in any career you choose. Remember in life, "there is no free lunch" and "life is a bed of roses, but it comes with thorns."
Fourth, stop comparing yourself with others; everyone is fighting some sort of battle and dilemmas in life. You are all alone in your battle of life, so face it, fight it, win it. Victory is yours and so are failures.
Fifth, you are not a burden on anyone, but your thinking is. God has plans for you; all you need to do is keep walking, working, hoping for the best, and the best shall come to you.
Sixth, working abroad is not as rosy as you dream it to be; once you are abroad, you will miss India terribly. There is no better home than Sweet Home!
I understand my philosophical suggestions above have no practical use for you, but if it can at least spark a positive thought process, then you will get practical answers. Moreover, if you are seeking specific advice, provide specific details like your interests, options, efforts, etc.

Hello Ridhhii,
Could you please respond to Anuradha and Hussain? I may have a few more things to say depending on your response - basically to understand where your mental frame-of-mind stands in the current situation before I attempt to guide your experiences towards the available options.
At this point in time, I just have a word to uplift you: Behind what one sees of successful people lies a lot of hard work, heaps of trials, tribulations, and in many cases, swallowed insults too. So, don't just go by what you 'see' in others - there's a lot more than what you can observe and notice.
Hope to see your response ASAP.
