Hi Seniors,
I planned to do MHRM through distance learning, but none of the recognized universities are providing it in distance mode. One of my friends suggested I do PGDBA specialization in HR at Symbiosis. I went through the brochure and found it interesting, so I planned to pursue it. However, the issue that is stopping me is that there is no institution here in Chennai. Therefore, whatever I need to send (application/DD/assignments), I will have to send it to Pune through courier. If it doesn't reach there, my efforts will be in vain.
I checked the consumer complaints website, and the complaints raised against Symbiosis are increasing my negative thoughts. Can anyone please give me confidence that I can go with Symbiosis? Does anyone have experience with Symbiosis??

Hi Supraja,
I have completed my MBA from SCDL and did not encounter any issues. The couriers consistently arrived on time, and communication was also sent through courier services. Many individuals are pursuing their Post Graduation from SCDL without facing any problems.

I fail to understand why you are reading these consumer complaints on websites and who advised you to do so?
You are a mature and educated person living in 2011, dear. Just because you stumbled upon something negative on the web, it does not necessarily mean that it will happen to you in the future.
There is no harm in establishing communication with SCDL. I want to share that my younger sister is also pursuing PGDHRM from Symbiosis, has completed her 3rd SEM, and has never faced any issues that you are concerned about. Additionally, I personally know several people associated with SCDL.
I must commend their communication system with students because they promptly notify students via email or their Student Account (SCDL STUDENT ACCOUNT) if there are any discrepancies. You can also find essential information about SCDL students, new courses, and program fee details on their official webpage.
They provide comprehensive details and solutions to students' problems related to program fees, communication with students, study materials, exam-related queries, online study, communication/chat with professors through online study, and more.
I do not foresee any problems, questions, or situations like the ones you are worried about. Proceed without fear. Moreover, in this modern, advanced, and educated world, you should not be apprehensive before engaging in any communication. Stop overthinking!

If you see the books and course content of Symbiosis and Welingkar, both are the same (only the cover page is different). Fee-wise, Symbiosis charges less. Don't depend on consumer complaint forums; there is no organization that will provide you with 100% service. Courier or postal services or intermediary partners sometimes cause damage, too.
If you are studying from IIM, then there is a huge difference; otherwise, they are all the same. When opting for distance learning, what are the requirements for classroom study? MBA is not rocket science; whatever we studied during BCOM (NEHU syllabus), 75% of the material is repeated during PGDBA. I am mentioning this as I completed my PGDBA from SCDL. It's different that I finished it in four years instead of two.
I would suggest going with Symbiosis; paying a higher fee does not necessarily mean you will be taught something extra.

@Mr. Anil - After seeing your reply, I am confident to proceed further. I am worried only because of money purposes. I am from a poor background. Everyone knows the value of money, but for me, it's a little special. To pay the fees for August 2011 (Rs 15,000), I need to start saving from today onwards. I have so many financial commitments. That is the reason. Here, I am going to fill out my application for PGDBA.....

Hey Supraja yaar, money matters for everyone, and it doesn't mean that if I am rich, then I don't need to worry about it. Yaar, I know and can understand your concern, but I want to tell you again, don't worry about it. Also, you are not paying your fee by CASH but by Demand Draft, and now I want to remind you that the Demand Draft system has been created by the Govt for concerns like this, especially when we can't pay the amount in cash.
DD option is 100% secure and safe. Also, if by any chance your Fee DD does not reach SCDL, believe me, no one can encash this. So you can go with it without any fear of losing your money. OK!

If your city hosts a good library or a reference available to you in your own company you work for can provide a lot of support. If you are young and want to pursue studies further, an MBA will make you eligible for a Ph.D. in the future. A PG diploma is a roadblock...

Thanks for your suggestion. But I don't have an idea of doing a Ph.D. so far. I just planned to have some qualifications in HR from a reputed university. At Symbiosis, they have lots of practical assignments to do. I mean, for each subject, students have to submit 2 assignments, totaling 20 papers, so approximately 40 assignments in a period of 2 years.
As I was in consultancy before, I met many MBA students. Out of those students, those who did their PG (Distance education) at LIBA, Symbiosis, Anna University, Pondicherry University were good comparatively. I collected details from all these universities, and I found Anna University and Symbiosis to be good and tough to complete. That's why I chose this. I had also applied to Anna University and am preparing for entrance exams.
