Though I have not read the whole of it, the competency model and case study of Microsoft seem interesting.
Where the basic definition of competency is concerned, interest is given at the end after intelligence, education, experience, and ethics. According to Harvard-based consultants, a person's desire to stay in a job depends on deeply embedded life interests, abilities, and values in that order. This presents a different perspective. Other researchers also emphasize the importance of interest - all links can be found on my blog: http://mypyp.wordpress.com/.
You can draw your own conclusions.

Indeed, a great research. Thanks for so much assistance. Besides helping in our day-to-day operations, one thing that such articles do for sure is help us in self-development, which breaks the monotony of the job.

Thank you for the attachment that you have posted on this HR site. I was wondering if you have the e-book related to "Competencies at Work" by Spencer and Spencer. If you have it, could you please email it to me at: ambikakamath@rediffmail.com?
