Hi, I am doing an MBA. I am going to do my project in HR. I have selected my topic, but I have no idea how to proceed. It is "Employee Retention Techniques."
Can anybody please help me in framing the questionnaire? Also, how should I proceed, and what data should I collect from the company? Please, it will be very useful to me, and I will be more grateful to you.

Hi Princy, I am also doing MBA and working on the same project "Retention Practices in Pharma Inc." in an MNC in Bangalore. You need to collect a lot of data such as:
1- Exit interview data; this will help a lot.
2- Ex-Employee contact numbers - do a follow-up with them, ask them questions based on certain parameters. I will give you such questions.
3- Go to other companies, talk to people there, especially HR. They will help you as retention is an open topic to be discussed.
4- Talk to your friends in the HR batch, ask them to share information about retention techniques.
5- Most importantly, instant recognition of employees is the only tool of retention today other than money. So, think of as many effective instant recognition practices like the Wall of Fame, cards, gifts, etc.
6- Think of new employee benefits. You will get to know about this through your friends in other companies and seniors who are working elsewhere.
I have provided you with a lot of things to work on. If you have any problems, send me an email.

Hi all,
I would rather like to see students giving as much info about what type of industry they are in and what they already know about the topic. If you do not know much, I suggest that you do a search using Google or other search engines on the topic, decide on the aim and objectives of your research taking into consideration the type of organization, the time constraint, etc. For example, what is suitable for an internship report may not be suitable for a full end-of-year project report.
Furthermore, beware of copying from other reports. Some of the reports I have seen posted are of substandard quality in terms of literature survey, methodology, and listing of sources in the bibliography.
If you need any help, you can drop a private message if you wish. I am already assisting a few students with projects in other areas.
Best wishes,

Sir, my project is on employee retention in a company named HDFC Standard Life. I am a 2nd-year student doing my MBA from Mumbai University. I am presently working on a project with HDFC Standard Life about "recruitment and retention management practices in the company," which is closely related to your project on employee engagement activities. I am almost done with my project but I have not received a good response related to the employee retention part. I would like to request you to share the details of your project to help me with mine as I have to submit it very soon. I really need your help.

Hi, I am doing an internship in HR on the topic of employee retention strategies in life insurance companies. I have prepared a questionnaire regarding employee retention strategies by identifying key factors and have asked the current employees to fill it out. Should I also reach out to employees who have left the organization?
Furthermore, how should I proceed with preparing the project? How can I effectively compare strategies or analyze the attrition rate?

Hi,
I notice many of you want to work on a project on Attrition/help companies build retention strategies. In order to address this issue, the first thing you should do is identify the root cause of attrition. This is best achieved by having a heart-to-heart conversation with the employee. An outsider tends to get the honest truth from the employee because when done internally, the employee doesn't usually open up as they don't want to burn bridges.
Once you have the root cause, map it with employee information, broadly categorized by Manager, Location, Tenure, Age, Sex, etc. But it doesn't end here!
The organization will now need to address the issues that have emerged from the findings; only then will attrition reduce.
While I don't have a questionnaire, as exit interviews should not be a form-driven activity and are ideally conducted through a free-flowing conversation, what I can suggest is that you visit the AceNgage website - HR solutions: Exit Interviews, Surveys, Coaching, R&R programs, & more, and click on the case study. This will give you a good idea of what to ask exiting employees.
Reading the blog may also provide some valuable insights.
Warm regards,
Krish

Dear Sujna,
As a student, you should have made that clear in your post. Since you would have been aware of this requirement months ago, why have you left it until now? I suggest that you start searching CiteHr and the web, study and digest the available material, and write your own. Then, post yours or send it for comments.
Where are you doing your course and in what mode? Also, please post your messages in "Proper English."

An appeal to Moderators:
Please advise the 'budding HR managers' to refine their written English. Cite HR is unique, and we cannot afford to have the 'SMS language' replacing Queen's English. This sort of usage is on the increase, and I have personally come across many 'professionals' struggling to speak in English. I voice my suggestion in this forum with the fond hope that 'professionals' pay more attention to details and prosper.
Another request: Mr. Narasimhan (nashbramhall) is a very senior person, and I appeal to youngsters to moderate their language. Before replying to a member, please take care to view his/her profile to know about the person's experience and expertise.
Good luck, God bless.
