Hi,

Fifteen days, I think, is not a long enough period to judge. If your boss is not assigning tasks related to HR, as an HR executive, you can start preparing a report about the kind of activities or updates that are needed in the HR field of your company. You can suggest some ideas to your boss and then analyze the response and reaction to your suggestions. This will help you determine if the company truly wants HR tasks to be implemented.

Swati,

It certainly is too early to presume things, as our friends have pointed out. It is better to give some more time for the company as they may be having other internal problems that are not revealed much, which are common in a business. Do not get too impatient about that now.

Hello,

I guess you could casually ask your boss with a smile, "How soon can I expect the HR portfolio, and is there something I need to start doing about it right away?" This will give you peace of mind. Remember to ask, never assume, and act on assumptions.

It is suggested to discuss with the boss and ask him directly what he expects from you as time passes. Surely, a one-to-one interaction would be much more productive, and a better outcome can be expected.

You joined the new company just 15 days ago. You have to adopt a "wait and watch" policy and also try to understand how the new company operates. No one will directly assign you tasks. It is essential to build confidence with your superiors.

Hi Swati,

Presently, what jobs has your boss assigned to you? I have also faced a similar situation where I gave my boss enough time to build trust in me and assign responsibilities. However, when I noticed no progress, I approached my boss to clarify my deliverables. The response I received was that they would revert back very soon. After a few days, I directly asked for my Key Results Areas (KRAs). I also reached out to a colleague and requested involvement in projects.

I finally received my KRAs and am currently working on them. Please do not remain silent on these matters; politely approach your boss and express that you feel somewhat disengaged. Request a clear definition of your responsibilities within the domain.

Thank you.

Hi There,

The same situation happens for any new joiner, that too at the lower grade rather than manager levels. So, wait patiently for some time. Try to gather information regarding the company. Think of this as the "honeymoon period." Later on, you will be piled up with work, so don't make any rash decisions.

Would you like me to assist you further with anything else?

What kind of work are you looking for? As an HR professional, you should focus on basic HR infrastructure and align things if they are not streamlined. Take the initiative and let your employer see that you are interested in the work. This is a new tool to check employees' interest in their work. Sometimes, management may keep new employees idle and analyze employees' activities (willingness, interest in work, etc.) secretly, and later disclose this information to the employees. This can be very detrimental to one's professionalism. Therefore, do not give your employer the impression that you are unwilling or bored. Take the initiative and maintain a positive attitude.

It's too early to decide to leave the job. Perhaps your boss wants to make you comfortable with this environment and help you forget that you were working with its competitors, etc. Have patience and also discuss with your boss.

Hi Swati,

Don't be impatient. Some organizations don't work at our pace and expectations. While you have time, make an attempt to learn more about the organization's business, its business plan, its people, and its values system - what makes it tick, etc.

Hi Swathi,
There is something called test of Capability, so May be your company might analyse your potential and later enhance the role with dosages so you need to wait atleast for one month if it goes behind a month then you can ask your Management and then take your decision

I have read the messages above and let me narrate the experience of a friend in the UK.

In his first job at an engineering company, he was given the Blue Book - a book about rules and regulations - and asked to read and digest it all. He was not an HR person. When he joined, there were some problems with the development of a new product, and all efforts were focused on solving that issue. Therefore, it was well over a month before he received his first proper assignment of testing a product.

Much later in life, after being appointed as the Regional Assistant Manager, he was not allowed to perform the job he did as a Principal Productivity Services Analyst. As the Assistant Manager, he had practically nothing to do. Whenever he asked the Manager for work, the response was, "Be patient, young man, all in good time." The only task he was given was to check some summary reports before dispatching. When the manager suddenly passed away one day, and he had to step into his shoes, he realized he did not know what his boss actually did. However, over two weeks, he discovered that the manager did not have much to do either. The manager spent a lot of time traveling between the seven sites where analysts and warehouse managers worked.

Consequently, he decided to pursue higher qualifications and eventually left the company.

Have a nice day.

Definitely its too early to judge.. but well if you are so so kin.. here is a way..
Sometimes acting stupid works.. I'll suggest to ask your boss/alternate reporting person a very stupid questions.. but with big smile and a bit of humor.. when he ask how you are doing?
Say with a big smile, "Nothing, just skimming through policy and procedure and dying to get some live job as I'm all set to go now"
majorly this theory have worked and may be after seeing this enthu.. you will get some tasks.
else just wait and have patience.

Let me understand one thing... If they haven't assigned you any HR work, what work do you currently do in the company? Do they literally make you sit and do nothing at all? Please reply. Because based on your reply will be my advice.

Hi Swathi,

Plz don’t worry, since this is only 15 days you have joined the company. This is a normal / common issue in every organization. Since, you are very new to the company, try to understand what activities are going on in the HR department, and how are they handled by the respective authorities. Try to make yourself involved in the job by having a PROACTIVE approach. This will definitely help. Even though your colleagues or management don’t entrust any job to you, you need to be proactive, but make sure that, you are not annoying anyone. For example, if someone is doing any job, you can ask, “Can I help you with your job”, and believe me, nobody will answer “NO” even if they are not involving you in the job also. Try to find out if the HR Department has got any “HR Procedure or Policies” (generally a guideline book, that every company follows, which explains about the Recruitment and selection procedure, Work hours, Payroll process, Leave facilities, Disciplinary rules, Employee grievances redress, retirement and separation rules, Performance and appraisal policy, training and development, employee benefits and compensation, etc.)

And second thing is, plz check in your department, if there is a “Job description” followed for every employee. If your organization has a strong HR department, then I am sure, they must be having a Job description (roles and responsibilities of employees). If you find the job description, check, who are dealing with those jobs and talk to them. Slowly you will find yourself busy in work.

This is not a lecture, purely based on my personal experience. Believe it or not, I had taken six months to settle down in my job, and everything is normal now.

So, be positive and cheer up!!!

Dear Swati,

Whenever you join any organization, whatever our seniors say, they never implement changes within a short time. They also need some time to assess the candidate while working with them and need to assess you with other colleagues in the department.

You should complete your job tasks on time and avoid panicking, as it may reflect negatively on your part. HR professionals should have patience in their work.

Thank you.

Hi Swati,

Fifteen days is hardly enough time to showcase and prove your skills. Why don't you speak to your boss about any tasks they may have, even if it involves doing entry-level jobs? No offense intended, but once your dedication is demonstrated, you will be entrusted with more responsibilities. However, I would recommend waiting at least 3-4 months before considering leaving the job.

Hope this advice helps.

Regards.

I agree with what the other members have suggested. 15 days is too early to judge. Meanwhile, you can understand the company, the current HR practices, and future needs. Also, a one-on-one interaction with your boss would be better rather than keeping your apprehensions contained and being unhappy about it.

All the best buddy :icon1:

Hi Swati,

Just stay cool. I know it's kind of boring to sit all day and do nothing, but just think of it as your honeymoon period. Lastly, 15 days is too short a period to think about changing your job. Just stick on for some more time and talk to your boss.

Dear Swati,

If you do not have any job profile that matches your qualifications, you should directly approach your boss regarding the job description. If you do not receive it, then you should report directly to your Director (Operations) via email. This will definitely help you.

The same approach was taken by me, and I received my job after 2 days.
