Dear Seniors,

I am an MBA graduate who passed in 2007. I met with an accident just after completing my course. Due to this unfortunate incident, I was forced to stay away from job hunting for quite some time. Fortunately, good fortune smiled upon me when I was selected for an operations position at Reliance. I joined this company on August 1, 2008, for a fixed one-year tenure (with only a salary of Rs. 7k). However, due to the economic recession, I was forced to submit my resignation (my manager was pleased with my work performance), and my last working day was January 5, 2009. Therefore, I only have five months of experience in hand now.

I have been actively looking for a job but have not yet found a suitable one. My friends mention that having a gap after my post-graduation and just five months of experience might make it challenging for me to secure a job. They believe it will be very difficult for me to find a job on my own. I feel stuck. Even though the salary was only 6k, I accepted the position because the salary was not crucial to me; I was focused on gaining experience.

Please reply to me. My email ID is

Thank you.

Do not lose heart; most graduates initially struggle with such strange situations, except for a few who did not, as luck favored them with good opportunities. Life is smooth for those individuals, but for most people, the struggle is similar.

Believe me, this time does not stick around for long because time always runs fast, and things will change. Your luck will also smile one day.

Hi Madhu,

Know that life has its own way of testing your mettle and will. Each incident or so-called unfortunate accident actually is placed for a purpose. There are no coincidences.

One thing my mentor taught me: The creation only reflects and makes true what your underlying thoughts are and not what you are speaking. So trust in yourself and in your intention to make a meaningful difference in this world, and the creation will guide you.

So watch out your language and thoughts. As long as the recession, bosses, or other people are accountable for something undesirable in your life, you don't have any control. You own the condition; you get to change it and design it as per your choice.

Here is a one-page newsletter with interesting reading, probably especially for you. Got it from my mentors.

Wish you all the best. May you find a true professional expression :)

Hi Madhu,

It is advisable that you keep your job hunt on. You are a qualified candidate. You can always put forth your bad experience if questioned by an interviewer. Stay optimistic.

All the Best...
