Hi,
I received an offer from a top MNC in October 2008. Based on that offer, I resigned from my current position. I had clearly communicated that my notice period would be 60 days (non-negotiable) and that I could join by December 29th, 2008. However, in November, a month later, they informed me that I could only join after the Background Verification (BV) process, which might take 9-12 weeks. Surprisingly, this was not disclosed to me at the time of the initial offer. By December, I had already left my previous job as per our agreed terms. In January 2009, they even removed the Variable Allowance from my CTC. Despite these challenges, I felt compelled to accept their terms as it was my dream company.
Now, in February 2009, after waiting for a month, I inquired with HR about my joining date. I was informed that my Background Verification had been completed, but they could only update my employment status by April 2009. They still cannot guarantee a specific joining date by April. I feel frustrated by this lack of transparency. It is disappointing that they did not communicate this delay when extending the offer. Being left in limbo after leaving my previous job is causing me significant financial strain, especially given the current market conditions where job opportunities are scarce.
Is this considered a good HR practice for such a reputable company? I would appreciate any advice on how to handle this situation. Your insights would be invaluable to me.
Thank you.

It is always better and safer to put in your resignation letter only after receiving the appointment letter with the joining date from the new company.
Anyways, keep hoping for the best and start searching for new opportunities. Good Luck!
Hi, I got an offer from a top MNC in October 2008. Based on that offer, I submitted my resignation. I had already informed them that my notice period would be 60 days (non-buyable & non-negotiable) and that I could join by December 29th, 2008. After a month, in November, they informed me that I could only join after the Background Verification (BV) process, which may take about 9 - 12 weeks. They did not inform me about the BV at the time of the offer. By December, I had even been relieved from my previous employer as per my terms. In January 2009, they even removed the Variable Allowance from my CTC. I compromised because it is my dream company. Now, in February 2009, after waiting for a month, when I asked the HR about the joining date, he informed me that my Background Verification is cleared but they can update my employment only by April 2009. Even now, they are not guaranteeing that they will provide me with the joining date by April. What can I do? At least they should have informed me about this delay when they made the offer. After being relieved, they are causing delays. I do not have any other offers now and am not receiving calls due to the current market situation and financial constraints.
Is this a good HR practice for such a big company? Anybody, please let me know what I can do. I need your help. Thanks.
