Hi all,
I am working in a small IT company. In our company, I do the reference check by calling the numbers provided by the candidates as professional and personal references. I generally ask them to provide me with the numbers of their last organization's reporting manager. However, I think this is not sufficient as the person may provide anyone's number as their reporting manager's number.
I also try to find out the contact number of the company's landline number via the internet. Unfortunately, this does not help most of the time as either the numbers are not available online or they are invalid.
At this point in time, our company is not willing to invest in reference check organizations.
Please share the process of reference checks that are done in your organization which may be more authentic than the above-mentioned procedure.

Hi,
You can also consider asking for the email address of the reporting manager and request him to validate the details of the employee via email. Some other details, in addition to the conduct, that you can request include:
- Designation
- Period of employment
- Department
- Reporting manager
- CTC
- Exit/settlement formalities completed
- Conduct of the employee
Take care.

Hi,
It's great that you have taken the initiative to conduct reference checks on your own. As an HR professional, you should maintain a network of contacts with HR personnel from other companies. When conducting reference checks, you can leverage these connections to request information such as the joining date and the date of leaving by providing the employee code or name from the previous employment. You may contact the office to obtain the HR contact details and proceed accordingly. This approach will help you expand your HR network and ensure accurate information during reference checks.
It is unlikely that a superior will disclose details about a resigned employee via email, even if the employee had a smooth exit. You can try to establish communication and see if they are willing to provide the necessary information.
Remember, building and maintaining professional relationships with other HR professionals can be beneficial for obtaining reliable information during reference checks.
